Fire Cider Tonic / Master Tonic

For years I have heard about fire cider tonic and its benefits. This year as the garden season ended, I realised that I had much of what was needed to start a batch…So guess what I just “had” to do.

I am not a purest, I simply added what I had, in the quantities I had, while taking my taste into consideration. For this reason I did not provide measures of ingredients, as I hope you take into consideration your taste when making this recipe.

Ingredients:

Horseradish

Ginger

Turmeric

Onion

Garlic

Peppercorns

Chilli Peppers

Lemon

Cinnamon sticks

Raw apple cider vinegar

Raw honey

Directions:

Roughly chop and add all ingredients except honey into the jar. Cover with raw apple cider vinegar and seal with a lid. If the lid is metal, line it with plastic wrap to prevent corrosion. Turn the mixture upside down to mix the ingredients. Allow mixture to infuse for a minimum of one month while mixing and opening the jar every few days.

After 1-3 months strain the solids out of the vinegar using a lined sieve. Return the liquid to a clean jar and mix in raw honey. Seal the original jar or transfer into swing top bottles for ease of use. Store in a cool dark place.

Notes:

This mixture can be used when you feel a virus coming on by taking it by the spoonful or it can be mixed into a liquid of your choice. I prefer it in warm water with extra lemon. This mixture can also be used as a marinade or as a dressing.
